From My Home Gym to You
Teddy and I moved to Austin eight months ago with the plan to find an investment property. We spent seven months in an apartment and quickly realized that buying a house here wasn’t really in the cards for us (or something that we really wanted anymore).
At the end of our lease, we did know that we didn’t want to be in an apartment anymore. Number one, Frankie. Having our dog in an apartment was super tough. Number two, I had been sent a squat rack and gym equipment, and we were obsessing over building our very own home gym.
So, instead of buying a home, we went on the search to rent one. Here was our “must” list:
garage
gas stove
little backyard
Three bedrooms (there’s only so much you can get done sitting back-to-back with your partner all day, amirite?)
Turns out, ATX doesn't like garages very much. This fact still makes zero sense to me, but I assume it’s because there’s no snow here, so having covered parking isn’t really a priority (let’s not get started on how many times my butt has been burned from sitting on hot leather car seats).
Our lease was ending July 2nd, and come May, we still did not have a place lined up. We finally found the place that we are currently in on June 3rd, and we put an application down faster that I can polish off a single scoop of ice cream.
We moved two weeks later into this place with the garage of our dreams. Plus, added bonus, it had two big mirrors already in there!
We worked with Texas Garage Gym Builders to build out everything just the way we wanted (they will give you a free custom quote if you’re anywhere around Austin!), and they totally nailed it.
We do have a few finishing touches of extra equipment on the way before I’ll call it done, but to date, I am stoked about the project.
Here is what we have:
Kettlebells from Kettlebell Kings (use code Tara10)
Dumbbells, Rack, Plyo Box and Weight Tree from Fringe Sport
iFast squat rack (code: Tara)
Hope Fitness Gear bands (code TARA)
BC Strength Bar, Plates, and bench on the way
Assortment of recovery tools from Hypervolt
My goal of having a gym space is to always have quick access to filming content for my clients and social media platforms. So if you follow me on IG, TikTok, or Youtube, you’ll definitely start to see my background change.
